Web versus Print

One thing that I’m learning quickly as I continue working on my site is that Web design is definitely different than print design. I’ve purchase several stock photos to use as the header to the site—antique wooden letters, watercolor paint blocks, and the like. However, although each image is beautiful as the header it doesn’t convey the image or “idea” of my site to a potential visitor. It seems that flatter images work better—at least for the header. My task this weekend is to peruse some other blogs that have been suggested to me as being designed well and get a sense of what they’re doing.

Nonetheless, I’m having lots of fun tinkering!

Production Before Perfection

I recently heard the above phrase mentioned in a video I was watching on the subject of procrastination. The phrase resonated with me. It is easy to fall into the trap of getting it all “figured out” first and getting into the process second. It takes bravery to go ahead and “jump in” and get going.

For 2014, I hope to be putting Production Before Perfection at the top of my list. Having said that, I also want to do good work, write well, create great design, and have fun too.

After much pondering on my part I have decided to build my own Web site. Here you will find information about my professional interests and experience, my blog(s), samples of my artwork and writing, and other assorted tidbits from and about me.

I’m just getting started and am learning the ins and outs of posts, pages, Web design, and more, but I’m having a great time so far.

I’ll keep you posted (no pun intended) on my progress.

Here’s to a great beginning!
